Your tubes appear to be a bit lower and father away from the engine block than factory routing.

The bracket in your picture attaches to the front motor mount.

Thanks all for feedback and thank you Howard for the pictures. I see you posted those in a previous post for someone else with a similar question, I'll try harder in my searches..
You have 2 of those brackets while I can only find 1. Perhaps I lost one along the way. If I move the one I have to the front motor mount that should help raise the tubes and help the situation. The back bracket looks like it bolts on with a bolt on the flywheel cover, That plus the breather tube would force the tubes up and in. The tubes are the ones I took out, but maybe they lost their shape in my cleaning and painting efforts. I'll keep looking for another such bracket for the rear. thanks again to all.

Believe that missing pipe is the dipstick not the breather. Not sure if it will help keep the tubing back since they shouldn't touch but at least it will help get the route established once in position. If you can't find your original clamp, I have an extra front you can have if you want to PM me an address.

The breather road tube mounts with the rear bracket on the front bolt of the bell housing cover.

Wow , that is a beautiful paint job!!
Thanks for the picture. So if the breather tube and the tranny line bracket are attached with the bolt on the bell housing cover, what is that post for on top. The one where i hung the bracket in my pictures??

Believe that is the locating dowel.
Look on the lower half cover of your bellhousing for a third hole between the bolt holes. The engines should have a dowel pin which fits in the center cover hole and locates the cover properly relative to the upper half. Make sure the holes are clean and no burrs on the hole or dowel end. The dowel pin is pressed in the upper half. If the pins and cover holes do not fit or line up perfectly and if cover is not exactly straight and going up evenly on both sides so the pins are started in the holes, when the cover bolts are tightened if the pins don't slide into the holes they can get pushed up and may be what you are seeing.

You are correct, as usual.
I was wondering what those middle holes were for. I'm sure the dowel pin was in that position for many years as that's how it was when I bought the car. I was easily able to tap the passenger side dowel pin down into proper position. There is no driver's side pin, so I'll go find one to ensure good alignment. I assume the need for such good alignment is for the starter motor gear to mesh properly with the flexplate? thank you. (I got the cover out without removing an exhaust pipe, but getting it back in is much more of a challenge...)
