left is new NOS ones.....right is the old one that came from the motor. left is the most recent updated version that Packard released, and the right is 1955 version.

Mike Dotson has these if you need them, he got them from Sasco so they are the real deal!

thanks Mike! ;0)

The left one is a small block Chrysler lifter. That's about as "updated" as you'll get.

so from your experience you are saying they are in no way Packard lifters, but 100% Chrysler like you said.

can you show me a reference that these go to Chrysler....i am so confused.....one way i am garraunteed they are Packard and the other they aren't and i have no way to prove it.

Mike says he got them from SASCO when they went down, so i would hope they really are Packard.

and by updated, what do you mean....are you be sarcastic with the " "

THIS FORUM has something called an X-ref!!! TRY USING IT !!! Here it is.

packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/parts/searchform.php?PartDesc=lifter

Enuf to make a man want to use the lords name in vain.

BTW. try reading the comment about the lifters too. Tho not exhaustive it's a good concise explanation.

Bottom line:

Packard V8 and '50s wideblock 318" V8s used the same #879. It is made for a pushrod with a .25" spherical radius tip. So yes, they are both Mopar and Packard.

In the early '60s and later Mopar changed to a 5/16"-3125". The lifter body stayed the same, but the pushrod seat changed. So these are Mopar only.

I have no way of knowing what lifters Mike Dotson has, but by his reputation, he should know what is what.

Packard V8....you don't have to yell.

Jack, thanks for the help, i will get back with Mike and clear things up. i agree with you, Mike is a good man to work with. He also told me he had the 55 version like the one on the right of the picture...should i trade him out for the 55 version....he advises not to as Packard had problems with them. but i am niave, cause i have no idea...i'm to young to know and i have never rebuild a motor before, much less anything Packard.

and also thanks for working with me on my vision for my motor. you are also a great guy!

from a quick google search it looks like the new one may be the jb2011 version and not the jb879. jegs has both and the 2011 has a picture from the side that looks just like my new ones. the 879 looks different and has the old push rod seat.

Here Keith, I'll save you the trouble:

"Packard V8 hydraulic valve lifters: Melling JB 879 or SealedPower HT 879. DO NOT USE THE 2011 LIFTER !!!!!!!! I have the JB879 installed in my 56 Executive. When i pulled it apart there were 2 replacement types in there that i have reasons to believe came from one of the major suppliers. The 879 lifters are identicle to the 2 replacements i found in the engine EXCEPT for the shape of the pushrod seat. The 879 has a pushrod seat identicle to the factory lifters that was in the car."

As for my "updated" comment, yeah, it was sarcasm. The only lifters you'll find today are Chrysler lifters, unless you by chance come across an actual set of Packard lifters, of which the ones you have are not.

Mike says they are NOS.....and i think he took offense to my questions.....so i'll just take his word for it and move on.

and i read the X-ref, you didn't have to post it.

i try my best to help people on here as much as i can....and i meet up with a bunch smart remarks.

i'm done for awhile. i'm gonna go hibernate.

Jack thanks for helping. i'll stay in touch when i start getting more parts together.
