Hand spotlight project

Hi all! I picked up this hand spotlight today for cheap. It needs to be fixed, mainly a new cord or cigarette plug for power, and the bulb is toast. I’ve seen a couple other posts that seem to date this kind from ‘53-55/6, but I’d appreciate confirmation of that as most I see for sale are labeled as all sorts of years and things!

Does anyone know what type of GE bulb this has, and where there are cigarette outlets I can wire in? I’d love to get it working again and use it in the car!

That style handle is shown in the 54 and later accessory folders. No 53 info on site but if other sources identified it as available in 53 it is very possible. The hand held light in the 51 accessory folder looks to be a much different shape.

Can't get a good grasp on the actual bulb type or size from the photos but have you tried taking the bulb out and see if there are any numbers on the back. It looks like a sealed beam type PAR 36 style spotlight bulb but that one may be too large in diameter or depth. If it is a regular type socketed bulb then it should be fairly easy to find a replacement.

Modern cigarette lighter power plugs and sockets can be found on Amazon and probably on ebay as well but if you don't want a modern look, finding a NOS plug or some old item on ebay you can remove the plug from may be the only option.. If that is the old style cloth covered cord, not sure it will fit in the strain reliefs typical with modern plugs.

Being a 53/54 ( I have one as well ), it's a 6v bulb. I had to change with to 12v.

Well I cracked mine open today. No complications, three screws and the hanger and it comes right apart. Must have been rewired at some point because it was a rubberized cord shielding.

Bulb seems to say M94, which upon search confuses me. The GE M94 on Amazon here seems to look right and is a sealed beam but the specs don’t seem right. 100w 13volts? BigKev is this the 12v you used? I’m worried that it won’t work right, or bright I should say, with the car still on 6v.

If you are using it for 6 volts, the bulb is a 4515, 30W PAR36
For 12 volts, 4405, 30W PAR 36
