Mark, The bracket in Jeffs post is for the 356 cubic inch engine only. The 288 does not have that bracket.

See Plate No 96 in the 1951-54 Parts List for an illustration of the exhaust system with supports.
The front support has a metal strap with an insulating rubber piece that is bolted to the bell housing at the upper end and to one side of a muffler clamp at the lower end. See the attached photo. I believe that there is also a bracket at the lower end that is attached to the lower bell housing cover but not sure. Photos of the support at the rear of the tail pipe are also attached. This one bolts to the underside of the frame.

Thanks BDeB. I can fabricate the one for the front. The car has a generic at the rear for the tail pipe. I just have to figure out what and how to put at the rear of the muffler as there is very little distance between the top of the frame rail and the pipe. That bracket for the front though gives me an idea. Hadn't thought of fastening something to the clamp saddle until I saw that picture. I didn't think outside the box. Wheels are turnin' in the brain now It has to wait until Monday as weekend night shifts are upon me. Thanks again!
