I guess he's not there anymore. As long as the skill was passed along that is good.

Given all the environmental restrictions growing up around plating they may have run into problems in that area. Especially in Florida where the water table is being pillaged. For painted carburetors and zinc plated parts the cosmetic aspects can be handled separately. I never cared much for brightening castings anyway because that old metal doesn't have much left to be sacrificed. And the finish is temporary so the point serves mostly out of the box dazzle.
