I had to do this to install a new (uncut) cylinder I got for my trunk lock on my '54 (same cylinder as 55s).

Just lifting the wire legs did not release the cylinder. I had to remove the wire and replace it afterward.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures from that procedure, that was pretty early on in my resto.

To all of you who responded to my inquiry, thank you very much. When I get off work today, I will go home and give these ideas a shot. What have I got to lose!

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

I got the lock cylinder out of the casing. I have not been able to track down a new lock cylinder or lock assembly, so I guess I am just stuck with using a screwdriver to open the truck latch. Bummer ...

Here is a link to an article from a Packard service article about the lock cylinder:

If you need a photo of case and lock cylinder, I can get you one tonight.

Check with Joel Ray. He may have them. Also, if you can find one off a parts car, you can stick your existing key in, file the tumblers down as needed, and bingo. You have a working trunk lock. I did the same with my glovebox lock.
