PV8 The brace runs the length, is spotwelded in 3-4 places in center starting about a foot from back and ends about 8 inches from front where it starts to dip down to the front cross piece. It's around 2 inches wide, 1/2 inch on each side and 1" in middle

It strikes me as odd that the Carib hood would need the brace since it already has the extra interuption for the hood scoops which i figured was the underlyeing eng'ring reason for the hood scoops. But they added a brace too!!!

I'm guessing only Caribbean. Parts says all 56 hoods same except the 5688 so if yours doesn't have it, guess none of others do.

EDIT: Thanks for pattern.

If the scoops were leaded in. Then the extra bracing was probably done to reduce flex which could have led to cracking of the lead.

The padding have have been used as a wedge to take up the gap between the skin and bracing which would help to reduce the side to side flex. Curious if other folks have this corner padding on the 51-54s.

PV8 has a point because the 56 hood appears stamped--don't see any sign of lead on mine--not to say it isn't there--but as I recall when stripped, there was a small pocket where the louvers go and they just bolt thru the steel..

Perhaps I am thinking of the 53-54 Caribbeans. Don't the 55-56 Caribbeans have a hood prop also?

I'm going to split this off to it's own thread as it has taken a life of it's own (which is a good thing).

Look at HH56's 22:09 post above pic labeled IMG_0373.jpg .

The hood scoop appears to be stamped into the main hood. Not a seperate piece leaded in. I don't know. Maybe HH56 will tell us.
