Okay….apparently the shop has been discussing and doing a little research as well.

They are thinking that we may be able to re-used the existing oval buttons. They won’t disassembly the two halves, but will cut the old fabric off and then wrap and glue the new fabric. They said they will be able to tell pretty quickly if the glue is going to hold sufficiently to work long-term.

Ken - I’d still appreciate the diameter of the round buttons in case use it the existing ovals doesn’t work out.
