The blower motor at front of engine compartment is located in fresh air intake.

Thanks Lloyd. Is it usually hidden inside the intake? Kind of an odd setup, to use a "pusher" rather than a "puller," although it would eliminate sucking up engine compartment gases in case of leaks in the ducts. There's always a reason with these cars! So rarely does one find haphazard engineering or "will-fit" compromises.

There is no fresh air intake vent in the cowl directly in front of the windshield like more modern cars since early to mid 1960's.

So the air intake for heater is thru 'stove pipes'. Many other manufactureers during the 50's did the same thing or very similar to the 55-56 Packards.

51-54 is the same with the exception that the blower motor is mounted on the inner fender about 1/2 way between the radiator and the firewall. Basically it's in the middle of the stove-pipe, instead of at the front of it.

I do believe that was a new feature of the 1955 Chevy.

Yes, familiar with the ducting, but not the motor placement.

There were cowl vents much earlier than '55, usually operated by a handle under the middle of the dash.

Yes, but the HAND operated cowl vents were NOT part of a FRESH air heater sytem. Fresh air heater sytem was first offered by Nash about 1948.

That is to say, the hand operated cowl vents were only vents. NOT part of the heater system.
