When I look at my glass filter just in front of the carb it is still full.

Sounds like your fuel pump valves are allowing gas to drain back into the fuel tank. My glass filter remains full on my car.

That's what I do on my '50. I only use the electric to prime the carburetor after sitting for a week or sitting for a few hours after a run in very hot weather.
