Didn't we establish your car was a 42? Either way, the only diagrams are the AEA style at the PAC site which sounds like the one you have or the Packard style on this site. Here is the 42 Packard item which is included in a diagram of the entire 42 lineup. BDeB posted the link for the 41 Clipper schematic a few posts earlier.

The AEA prints are easier to follow because they use lines from point to point but are not the greatest print quality while the Packard styles have better print but are harder to follow because they are a single line and rely on your matching a number at various points to see which direction the wire goes.

Regarding the tail lights, they are controlled by the headlight switch. In the US, it was either parking lights or headlights on in front and tail lights went on with the switch in both positions. Dash lights are powered from headlight switch and also active at either position but could be dimmed or switched off if desired.

To do this, the tail light terminal from the headlight switch powers the instrument light switch thru an inline fuse. Effectively the tail lights are powered directly from the headlight switch just as if the wire was connected there instead of the instrument switch and will turn on with the headlight switch. The dash lights are fed from the switched terminal out of the instrument switch and can be controlled independently.

I think this might have been done for convenience and maybe because the headlight switch is on top and a bit cramped and hard to get many wires onto the terminals. A secondary benefit might be the tail (and dash) lights are fused with a smaller fuse so if a problem developed with those lights the inline fuse would blow killing just the tail and dash lights rather than the breaker on the headlight switch constantly tripping and resetting on and off affecting all lights.

It is actually the other way round, the tail light terminal from the main lighting switch feeds the instrument light switch so that the inst. lights are available regardless of parking or headlight choice. It may very well have been wired so that the wires to the tail light are connected at the inst. switch, but they will be hot whenever the the main light switch is in either position.

Well I have had a couple of good days on the packard. I have completed the rewire of the dash board and I have got this fitted back into the car. I have also got all the wires connected up. I am waiting on a signal switch to arrive to fit to the steering column. I can then get these wired up. I am also waiting for 2 six volt fog light bulbs, and also the new reversing lamp. Next job will be to fit the new glass but still waiting for this to arrive.

Well I have had the car running and it sounds real nice, I am still not sure on the spring for the clutch arm. I have looked at where a bracket should go and I did make one but either the spring i have is wrong or this modelcar has some thing different, Does any one have any good pics of that area. How many springs are used in the clutch pedal linkage areas. Many Thanks Howard

I have been looking at the air breather, and I just wonder should it have a support going to it, there is a captive nut on the breather, does any body have a pic.

Thanks

Howard

Am assuming you have the tall vertical type air cleaner with the bolt on the side since the horizontal oil bath cleaner would not be able to stay in position without the brace under the oil reservoir. This photo from the archive shows the vertical brace fairly well.

A little bit more of an update and a question. Well all the new cut glass has turned up. I managed to fit the new windscreen glass yesterday with the help of my son and a friend holding the glass in place while i pulled the cord to fit the rubber. The screen went in very well. I am still waiting on the upholstery man to com and fit the headling once installed i can fit the trims around the rear window and front screen. I have tried to get the horns working but not having alot of luck. Any suggestions. Thanks Howard
