Its the small details that separate a good restoration from a great restoration. Fine details like the proper finish is important and the transmission is no exception. All parts that are being replaced are being replaced with NOS so there is no questions about the proper finish.

Misc NOS external trans items installed and rear trans mount, crossmember painted and ready to accept the engine/trans unit.
A big day ahead in LimousineLand. Manifolds blasted and painted with VHT, will be installed with all else after unit is in the chassis.

Too bad we don't have "Like" buttons here, because I would be liking all the progress reports on this significant car, which very few people would be willing or able to tackle. Thank you for saving this car!

This is really great showing how far you have come in the restoration. It makes the car I am working on look like childs play.

Thanks everybody for the moral support.
Last week after work I got the bug, went to the shop and in 2 hours had the engine/trans in the chassis, felt great and took 30 years off my age. Every day during the workday I spend a few hours working on it, sandblasting every nut, bolt and washer, painting parts etc. FUN and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Sunday afternoon was warm and mild, a perfect day to work on the Packard but then so is every other kind of day. Old trans pan that I was using while it was on the ground came off, NOS improved style freshly painted one went on, rear trans crossmember and mount were installed. . My son cooked a gourmet dinner/rack of lamb/lava cake, gave me lots of energy so..... 8pm went back to shop. In went the 3 piece driveshaft and center support and some misc items. The pile of nuts and bolts on the workbench is getting very small. Engine accessories soon, after I find the special WP modified for A/C that I put somewhere I wouldn't lose it.

Here are some photos to follow Fred's post above. The engine, trans and drive shaft are set in place. The front half of the body is being seam sealed where the new floor pans were installed and por15 will be applied.

You're making it all seem so easy. The driveshaft supports look like those from a postwar Henney-Packard which had a two-piece shaft - does this car really have a three-piece shaft?
