Didn't feel like working on the car today, but I have been curious as to what was under my seats. Unfortunately, I did not find anything interesting except another rotted body mount. I was hoping to find the build slip or something, but no such luck. I was hoping that the green seat cover on my car would have protected the original fabric so that I could reuse it. The rear seat is in excellent condition, but under the sheet on the front seat, there is a wear spot right where you sit that is worn almost all the way through. The green seat cover was missing from the front. I couldn't get the front cushion to release, but I peeked under it and I didn't see anything special. I really like the green seat covers a lot better than the original fabric. I'm sure no one reproduces anything like that either. I guess I'll have to use a seat cover kit from Kanter, even though it won't be original. My car would not be worth the money to buy the expensive repro stuff from SMS. I don't know if the green seat cover is aftermarket or a Packard accessory. The portion that goes under the rear seat is a strange pattern that looks like it would have been from the 50's. The rear of the car has some kind of rubber, stiff floor mat that is ribbed. In the front is a regular looking rubber mat. I found/forgot about a box I had in the back seat. It is a Felpro gasket box and it has three of a longer gasket and two which look like they are for a carb to manifold. There was also a rectangular one that might be for the valve lifter cover. Not sure because I haven't worked on that side of the engine yet. Back to the discussion on flocking. Here are some pics of the cardboard on the back of my seat in the trunk. Is this the flocking you are talking about?

Stephen, back to the channel holding the wires in the trunk. If I understand you correctly, the channel goes a little past the filler panel brace and then tapers up to meet the corner of the trunk where it comes to a point for the fender cavity? As you can see in my pic, that part is completely missing on mine.

That is correct. Tapers in starting at the end of filler panel and the fender. I measured four inches from the seam toward outboard of car, stops under the beginning of my tail light assembly. If I can figure out how to light it well, I'll shoot a straight down photograph on my right side, which is intact. I don't have total control over light output using the dSLR dink flash to slave a flash head that I am bouncing in the trunk.
Here are a couple of images of the right side showing the fibers. I think you can actually see the texture of the material. I uploaded a much larger image this time for enlargement Howard, it seems to be fairly pristine so I could send you a biopsy if you would like.

Stephen, I don't have anything other than rayon to compare with. It looks like and I vaguely remember a much coarser material than the rayon I've been using on a project. Those fibers are listed as .030 and dry fairly smooth (if the glue is applied consistently).
Their nylon fibers are .040 and one of the uses listed is auto trunks.donjer.com/cars.htm Without ordering some and trying it, just a guess if that would be closer. The original color looks like it might be a challenge with the standard stock available but mixing a couple for a custom blend might work if the texture was OK. I believe Ross mentioned doing a trunk or two at one time. Maybe he has more information.

More trunk pics for you - hope that they're helpful.
Like I said, can take a few more if you want . . . just say the word. Now I understand what area you're looking at, here are a couple of the channel etc. This shows rear section just after it's been cut away. It is laying on frame, later to be thrown away with many other bits. New section welded in. As the channel goes round towards the back of the rear fender it starts to narrow quite a lot. Will take a couple of pics and measurements tomorrow & try & show how it goes.

Thanks for the pics Larry. Very helpful. When I click on them to zoom in, a photobucket logo appears and says that they have been deleted. Is there some way I can zoom in on these?

Post #392, 4th pic:
What is that silver-blue convertible setting in the background??? I can't quite figure it out. Looks like an Eldo but not quite long enuf. It kind of looks like a cross between an Eldo, mustang and slab sided lincoln. very nice looking car.

Not sure why you can't zoom on my pics . . . I haven't deleted or moved the images so it's a mystery. Will try a few things in PhotoBucket and see if I can fix it.
Meanwhile here's one of the corner of the trunk with the channel wrapping around. Narrows and then it stays about 3/8" wide all the way around until it gets to the inner fender.
