Hi John.

Everything is good now. Something in the parking relay .. Have not pulled the cover.. But must be ground . I think I did solder the connectors. When I made the finger wiring.

I did on the brake wires.

And I run a ground wire right to the battery neg. So no ifs on ground.

I remake the whole finger and lead harness, all soldered connections, no dry crimps anywhere. They are only available as part of a comprehensive rebuild of the pushbutton actuator. All brand new wiring, no relying on 66 year old wiring and joints for reliability. Unless the customer asks specifically I make the finger harness in the "automatic park bypass" way. The Park finger has the same number of connections as the other 5 gear positions. This gives the best reliability.

Can't see why on a huge scale this could not generate power.


My points were dirty.. But after a few years of running non stop.

Capacitor to ground I think helped.

Packard headlight switch photos for Riki.

What I call a protect plate is actually metal and not a phenolic disc that the grounded wiper rides on. The disc provides a smooth surface and keeps the wiper separated so it cannot touch against the dash light and power in terminals. It also has small notches a bump on the wiper falls into. That action forms sort of a detent feel for the knob at the courtesy, off and rheostat positions. The end of the grounded wiper passing into the notched out area of the plate and touching the wire terminal is what turns the courtesy lights on.
