It works!
Re-mounted the new control box and improved the ground some. It worked as expected. Now I get to disassemble everything again to use the rubber coating. At least I can move on to the steering now.

Tearing down and removing all the seals and such from the Bendix control valve and cylinder were a lot easier then I expected it to be. I sure hope it goes back together just as easily.
I have already ordered both kits to replace the seals. Its supposed to be in the 60's this weekend so hopefully I can get all the T/L components removed, rubberized and reinstalled before it gets cold again.

I started rebuilding the Bendix control valve this evening. There is a small (dime size) o-ring in the kit but I don't recall taking one out. I don't see one in the parts plates either.
Anyone have any idea where/if it goes into this unit?

Maybe the extra O ring was a mistake or can accommodate another unit. Here is a Bendix unit as Ford used during that time. Other than the hose connections, does it look like the Packard version internally? There is a training manual with some views of the older Bendix unit. I believe it is the same as the 55 version except for the power cylinder.
On a second subject, TL again. I forgot to congratulate you on finally getting it going so congrats on a job well done. Now I have a question. Do you have any or could you take and post some good photos of the 55 compensator assy while it is in the open. In particular the solenoids and limit switch bracket and how it is mounted and positioned on the compensator. Would like something showing how it orients to the transverse bars but am particularly interested in the area where the limit switch arm is contacted by the bars. I'm trying to help someone who has his tail stuck in the air. He is telling me his travel on the transverse bar levers is only a little over an inch max. Goes inside the frame so end of transverse bar is about 5/16 to outside vertical side which would be max lift. Going the other way to lower, it stops with the bar end just outside the frame. I don't have a 55 to check but the 56 travel is right at 3" max travel so lever is pointing well toward center. I can't believe 55 is any less since the compensator components are the same. I'm thinking his limit switch bracket is bent or something else is preventing full motion but have nothing to show him how it should look.

Thanks Howard
For the bendix, everything to the right of the control valve housing looks a lot like a Packard. The left side of the housing shows a lot more parts then the Packard. I'll see what I can do tomorrow evening about your photo request. I think I know what you are looking for.

I found what you did on page 41 of your blog. You show a pic of all the parts laid out in order of removal and I do not see an o-ring in there anywhere.
