That must be the $9.95 earl scheib dip tank special job. The $29.95 jobs were nothing to rave about but at least the painters tried to miss some of the side chrome. That poor Packard didn't even rate that.

What is the story with the rear glass? I've not seen that before.

Avanti:

That is about the most repulsive paint job I have ever seen on any car in recent memory. I'd have to wear a clown nose and a fright wig if I were to drive that think down the road. I guess the owner was trying to turn the 400 into a rod or a custom or something or another and he ran out of dough. Very strange.

You can make a lot of really neat things from the parts left over after you rebuild your engine ...

I know its not CL but I'm sitting here at the Denver airport this morning having breakfast before flying out and this restaurant has a wall full of what looks like post war Packard hood ornaments, or am I wrong?

Would it ever be correct to put Caribbean gear on a 56 senior Packard? For authenticity purposes?

Is this car white and turqouise? The lower section has yellowed?

I restore the car, and the car restores me.

Depends on your definition of "authentic", I suppose. The DeBois dealership in MD Caribbeanized several (maybe as many as 20) and called them Esquires and though they were dealer-done there was supposedly a factory sanction to the work. Other than one of those Esquires I'd say the answer to your question is no unless you define changes that a willing dealer might have independently undertaken to make a sale as authentic.

I think it may be stained -- maybe rust, maybe other. If you can find Jfromkanter's 56 blog you can see his car also had a lot of staining on the white. Believe his was caused by rusty water dripping down from behind the stainless. Amazing how well the paint cleaned up.
