I could use the transmission from the Craigs List car but unfortunately the seller refuses email and texting and I don’t use a telephone.

One of our illustrious parts dealers, after at least two years of not getting it shipped, finally sent the transmission for this car but what is it? It is certainly not from 1951-1954 but it is also not drilled on the sides for mounts so not 1950 or earlier either. Whatever it is, it was a very expensive waste of money, especially in the shipping. It is about 28” long when the one for my car should be about 21” and has a totally different u-joint flange and rear housing. The last photo - and the one I had sent them for reference - is what it should look like.

Look at the transmission thread and see if it matches the red primer transmission.

I remember the thread but I’ve not been able to locate it but red was definitely not a 1951-1954 color. The parts book shows the main casting as fitting certain 1951-1954 models but the rest of it is considerably longer.

The overdrive transmission that you have been sent is the 1952-54 version which is different than 1951 which still used the shorter 1948-50 case for R-11 overdrive as shown in your photo.

Thank you but unfortunately it will not fit a 1951 Henney-Packard even though the drive shaft and rear axle are from 1954. These cars apparently use the earlier style. I guess I won’t know for sure until I get the rear axle and driveshaft installed and if there is space for only a 21” long transmission as I suspect there will be, then I’ll have to repair the R9 and use it. It came from another 1951 Henney-Packard when the one from this car became the donor to replace it with the proper one.
