I'm a newbie Packard owner so sorry if this is a dumb question. Is the 327 engine in my 49 Super limo a nine bearing or 5 bearing type and how do you tell? thanks!

The sure way to tell is by the motor number but on most engines you can also look at the main oil gallery on the side running lengthwise just above the oil pump and count the plugs at the end of passages feeding the bearings. I believe the 48-9 smaller engines were 5 main & here is a 5 main engine. One plug may not be seen because it is covered.

Unless you've had an engine swap, the 48-50 engines whether 288 or 327 were 5-main bearing engines; only the 356 engine was 9-main bearing during those years. Easiest way to tell, just as HH56 says, check the engine # or count the galley plugs.
