I have replaced the engine in my 37 including all new tune up parts and plugs. When I start out in 1st gear and at the beginning of 2nd gear I feel a very slight skip . I replaced the plugs temporarily with another new set just to see if I possibly acquired a faulty plug but no difference. Compression is excellent. Engine only has 120 miles since the rebuild. Any suggestions where to go next? Thank you.

Is the "miss" present at idle? Is the miss or skip regular (suggesting ignition) or irregular? What results do you get when you short out the plugs one at a time?

The skip is only under acceleration I 1st and 2nd gear. Idle is smooth. I am goIng to ohm out the plug wires. Not sure what the life of solid wires are but I can eliminate one more thing by doing this. I also feel I may have an issue with the carb. accelerator pump but will need to do more research to determine this.

The metal in plug wires lasts in definitely so checking the resistance will probably yield no information except if the wire is not connected to a terminal. What does deteriorate is the rubber covering which you cannot determine with an ohmmeter. The reason it skips on acceleration is because the compression pressures are the highest then and the spark has to most difficulty jumping the plug gap so it chooses the path of least resistance which often is jumping from a wire to the block or another grounded item. When at idle the cylinder pressures are the lowest thus the skip will most likely not occur

A plug with too wide a gap will cause such a skip. I feel that it is ignition for sure. Could be a crack in the cap or a path inside the cap, could be a wire that is not connected to the terminal, could be a defective to too wide gapped plug, could be a cracked plug insulator.

Had a similar problem with my 115 c, found the problem was in the delco distributor, the moving plate the points are mounted on has three flanges that hold three balls, one of the flanges had broken of and this allowed the plate to tilt and alter the points gap under acceleration. The solution was to replace the plate and re gap the points. Hope this is of assistance.
