Help identifying two Packards

Can anyone verify the year and model of these two Packards?

Is the one with the waffle grille a 1948 Custom Eight Touring Sedan (2252)
The other a 1948 Standard Eight Club Sedan (2295)?

Not enough info in the picture?

Thanks much,
Joe

The first is a 22nd series Custom Eight sedan (2252) and based on the headlight rims it's a very early one.

Second photo is of a 23rd Series (1949-1950) Eight.

Very early 22nd series Custom Eights had headlight rims painted body color. It also has the early style front bumper though that remained in production far longer than the painted headlight rims. See the Neal book for the nitty-gritty details.

Yep, noticed the head lamp trim rings.
I didn't know the production changes.

Yes, indeed. With the help of the Forest Grove Concours we identified the owners and confirmed the models from their entries. The black car is a '48 Custom Eight Sedan and the dove-gray is a '49 Eight Club Coupe.

Thanks again.

I see that now. Only the convertibles were Coupes. Fortunately there was not enough room for the entire model name in the caption listing all the Packard entries at Forest Grove, only the model number. My motto: Dumb, but lucky. We're going to press now. You can view current and past issues of the Oregon Clipper athttp://www.packardsoforegon.org/A-18-Packard_Clipper.htm

P.S. My favorite issue so far is Winter 2015.
