Anyone have experience with or opinion about the value of this type truck tire safety cage for filling up a tire after mounting with a split ring retainer? I've heard some horror stories and would like to keep my head and or limbs attached.

This piece of equipment seems like it would provide a decent barrier for vintage style tires filled to 40 psi. Truck tires are usually filled to 60. Martins also has four and five bar models at greater expense.

Sorry Rob, no experience with that unit. But I want to add emphasis to the situation; it would be extremely foolhardy to mount and inflate tires on split ring wheels without a safety cage of some sort, those stories of injuries and fatalities are well documented. For whatever it's worth I see the unit in question carries an OSHA approval.

They no longer use split rims on trucks because of the danger.
I've seen split rims come apart when traveling down the highway. Never ride alongside of a truck - get around it as fast as you can.

Applies to commercial/truck tires and need for cage, unneeded for lower pressure car tires/wheels.. Overkill but doesn't hurt. Better to be safe.

Thanks everyone. Don't mind a bit of over-protection. A cage would be valuable for peace of mind, if nothing else.
