Silly new question

OK don't laugh ... Please see picture. I know how to adjust the valves but ... what's under that cover? I had it apart a long time ago and I can't remember. Surely there's the camshaft and as I recall some kind of assembly attached to the covers. I remember it was a pain to get back on the block.

Thanks,
Crin

The valve mechanism uses cam rollers. That housing holds the cam follower levers and rollers. Its very well illustrated in the parts list. Yes, you can remove and replace without removing the head and valves, though it is not easy or simple.

No reason for you to remove the cam rollers and levers to do a valve adjustment.
