Can someone recommend an oil for my synchromesh manual transmission? I know to stay away from GL4 and GL5 Extreme pressure because the additives will attack the yellow metal (brass).

Apparently this General Motors product is GL4 (yellow metal friendly) and available through most dealers.

90w GL-1 (Mineral Oil). Napa sells it. Also can be used in your steering box.

Thanks for the responses. I purchased SAE 90 API GL-1 mineral gear oil (no additives) from Tractor Supply. Used in Ford Tractor Transmissions 1939-52.

+1 for GL-1 mineral oil. It made both transmission and steering gear feel much better.
