Possibly. Perhaps someone with more photos will come across that layout. From what I see in my meager prewar collection, 38 was the first year where the knobs and dial were on the same level. Earlier photos I have all seem to have the dial located above the knobs. None show that particular dial.

I think I'll post the pictures over on the AACA Forum and see if anyone there knows anything about it. It could very well be that a different car company used the Packard radio and this dial.

Gene, without reading everything over in detail, two thoughts occur to me. (1) the tuning head is from a different radio that the receiver, and (2) the set is from a model with rear compartment radio where the tuning head was placed in the rear arm rest, I think this possibility was already mentioned.
