There is a service counselor article on servicing and adjusting the cables and the system in Vol22 #10 Aug 1, 1948 issue. Perhaps that will help.
packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/SC/SC-VOL22NO10.pdf There is a thread from another poster with similar issues and some suggestions, problems and photos. packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... ic.php?post_id=90170#forumpost90170

Just can't stay away

Thanks for the response, Howard.
Turns out the cable snapped. Anyone have any ideas about where to get replacement setups for the cables, pulleys & tensioners for a 1950 Packard?

You might check the part number to be sure but packards1 has a drivers side unit with the cables.ebay.com/itm/1949-50-Packard-Windshield- ... ssories&vxp=mtr&hash=item56388be4a3
You shouldn't need the tensioner unless a pulley is frozen or is about to fall off -- just some lube. Kanter has them if you do want a new one.kanter.com/packard/pac-454.html Group 31.3772 (listed as 31.3774)
