Yes you will need to drill them out slowly or they will split when you try to put them over the balls.

Hank........my experience has been that drilling rubber tears the item. This in your blog? Please explain.

How about a well greased ball and heating the seal with a hot air gun to get it fairly pliable? Wonder if it would stretch and slide over under those conditions.

I used the smallest bit that fit and then just kept going up on size at a time slowley. Then I used a bunch of grease and warmed it with a hair dryer. Then I was finally able to slip it over the ball end without it splitting. I wouldn't use a heat gun. This may be in my blog ill have to look.

Maybe a measurement or two would confirm if any of these tie rod boots might fit with base diameter and height. I don't have any easily available pieces with boots left on to check shape or size against.
The lever ball OD is 7/8" and the neck tapers roughly from 7/16" to 5/8+. The length of rod opening it needs to cover is roughly 1 1/2 and height above lever looks around 1/2". The second item for Ford looks interesting but no dimensions. I'm thinking if the wide part will be enough to cover the opening JDS736 is close to what I remember from Hank's picture of Max's but don't know if 9/16 will slide over ball any better. ABC368 or ABC369 might be worth a look since the neck isn't as pronounced and wide part would give more overlap to the rod opening. I can't decide which looks more like the parts manual pict. www.antiquetractorsrus.com/fordtractorparts/axles/fordaxleparts3.html
