From the description of the resistance felt when turning the key, it could be that the blocking mechanism is gummed or frozen in position. Cleaning and lubrication may be all that is needed to make it work.

Very possible although I think the gumming part would more likely be in the button portion.

As a farther explanation on the lock workings that should have been included yesterday, the V8 front doors lock from the inside by pushing the handle forward. That raises the blocking mechanism via a lever toward the bottom of the block bar assy. The result is the same as is accomplished by turning the key and raising it from the top. By that same lever route, opening the door from the inside lowers the blocking mechanism and at the same time pushes against the latch mechanism to release the toothed wheel catch. Once blocking mechanism is lowered, it should stay in that position with the door unlocked until raised by key or handle again.
