This looks to be a nice 48 Custom original. But what's with the seats? Are those seat covers? Surely they're not original correct material. IS it possible the original is under that?

I thought & hoped the seller might be wrong as he says "I believe the seats were re-upholstered several years ago."
IMO that really hurts the value but you guys know more than I do--what do you think?

It is a nice looking car. If they are not seat covers it's too bad because they kind of resemble the optional Packard SanTex covers. Those or aftermarket things seemed to be a must have back in the day. I know dad even laid out money for a set of covers for the 51 he bought. If upholstery, maybe someone chose that fabric on purpose to resemble them.

I talked with the wife of the owner and she is pretty sure they are NOT seat covers
 It does appear that all that needs replaced is the part you sit on and the back rest. Other than that the car seems to be a very nice original example of a 48 Custom 8
