Here is pic of cradle as promised. I believe the lower order should be smallest cushion and spacer, large washer to lower cushion, small washer to cradle bolt (lower. Everything else should be between cradle and frame. The largest cushion goes between cradle and frame. There are X number of shims. Perhaps another 51-54 owner can tell you the dimension between top of frame and top of cradle. That will tell you how many shims need to be used between cradle and frame on top.

Well I finally got some garage time, so I started to degrease and wirebrush the oil bath air cleaner that Don was kind enough to send me. I will need to do a little metal finishing on it as there are a couple dings, and once painted they will be obvious. So a little work with a body hammer and perhaps a some glazing putting should put things back in order. The air cleaner still had the original A/C sticker on it. I took pictures of it for later placement. The last picture is after the first round of degrease and wire wheel brushing.

Randy,

Thanks for that. Somewhere in my travels I missed that posting from you earlier this week. So thanks again for that picture of the cradle mounts.

The air cleaner is looking good. But, I don't know about that work bench. It's way too pristine. It should be beaten up, painted with over spray, oily, etc. Keep working it'll get there.

LOL...well it's a pretty new bench. If you actually look at the picture you will see what looks like a blue haze on the bench under the air clearer. Two days after I built that bench, I spilled some of the firewall paint while filling my spraygun. So I tried quickly to clean it up with the thinner, and all I accomplished was making a blue wood stain that looks like my Packard.

Here is the the Oil Bath Cleaner after I removed the dings, skim coated it with a little filler, primer, and first coat of "underhood" black.

Ok the first coat is dry so I thought I would quickly mount the air cleaner to see if any "adjustments" need to be made to the support bracket before the final coats as the bracket appeared to have a few bends in it.

So after a little bit of adjustment, I got the cleaner to sit level from side to side. One question I have is that when the filter is mounted the oil bath side of the cleaner has a bias to towards the firewall. If this normal? Or should it be exactly perpendicular to the motor/carb? I noticed the bracket mounting hole in the head, is not perpendicular to the carb inlet.

Also if you look at the first picture the clear sit up pretty high. Is this going be ok for hood clearance. Obviously I am asking those with a Oil Bath cleaner on the 51-54 motors.

I think it looks pretty good. Level in both directions. The slight fore aft isn't a major concern. When I had the 54 Pacific, I believe that also went a bit aft. The height appears to be about the same as what shows in the get acquainted with 24th series book and parts manual. IIRC there was about 3/4 inch clearance on the Pacific hood--just touched the hood insulation.
