871 and 872 are the regular long torsion bars.
Interesting thing from the revised July 1, 1956 parts manual 445871 is the long left bar for 5580; 5680-88 6489154 is the long right bar for 5580; 5680-88 I would have thought the other bar would have part number 445872. The picture with the stamped bar 365, could it be the short bar for 5640-60-70? 445365 is listed for those models 445420 is listed as the short bar for 5580; 5680-88 I measured them at 51 inches Another interesting thing is that the senior cars used the same bars for 55-56. There are different part numbers for the left bars, and short bars for the 55-56 Clippers. The long right bar part number 445874 was used on both the 55-56 Clippers. I wonder what was changed just for the Clippers? So what would the number below the 3 digit number indicate?

If someone has a parts book that hasn't been updated I'd wager that the part number for the long right bar was 445872 in 1955 and was superceded by a 1956 number. Seven digit numbers that begin with "6" are 1956 numbers.

Wonder if the extra number could be lot or production date numbers.
Also wonder which document has the error. According to bulletin 56T-1 the 6489154 number is the extra twist heavy duty bar that was installed on some heavily accessorized cars not the standard bar.

HH56, correct me please if I'm wrong as I'm doing this from memory but I recall that in addition to the "standard" bars there were also for senior cars an larger diameter (export) bars, and additionally the 9 deg. extra twist bar, the last two not one in the same.

As interesting as that is, they were all full length main bars, right? Getting back on topic what the heck were these shorty main bars??? Craig
