If there are 4 rings on the pistons, wonder if there was some sort of reaction or corrosion starting to set up between the rings and the wall.

I'd be curious to know what you do to this motor before reassembling it. Hone or bore out cylinders? Sand the head to remove rust? Pull and replace the studs?`
Always puzzled when I see an engine that has been sitting around opened up....

I expect I will tear it down completely, have the block boiled out, new studs etc.
Car was amateur 'restored' in California 25 years ago...but have no idea what the rod babbitt looks like..... This project will slowly bubble up on the priority list. Thanks for looking... Bob and Gail

What is firing order???? If it is 1xxx6xxx then most likely nothing to worry about. The engine just sat for a long time.
I would definately mic the cylinders tho.

Marks are so evenly spaced it looks like caused by where the rings have reacted with the bore. Bore looks smooth so would advise a hone if it is not worn beyond spec. If you can't feel the marks then it's likely they won't cause any damage to the rings.
