Lots of rust at the sternmost molding and bracket connecting frame and body.

Kanter offers a thick fabric reinforced rubber which you cut to fit. Rather than have the freight for his material, perhaps you could measure your thickness and find similar at an industrial supply house in Germany. Some have also found places that make conveyor belts and bought some scrap belting. Cut and stack up several layers of the belting to get the desired thickness.

The car came without the battery retainer and the battery was leaking acid.
As it is a no go to drive around with a leaking battery wandering around the engine compartment I ordered a battery and a new retainer.

Unfortunately the retainer did not look like the ones originally used by Packard and, what was worse, it did not fit the new battery.

So I started to fabricate a new retainer from scratch.
This is the retainer pictured in some of the manuals:

Welcome to the experience of modern battery dimensions and old retainer dimensions. You are not alone in that experience.

I and others have had to do the same thing but what is more aggravating is according to manuals there is only the one part number for the retainer. On some of the cars it is wide enough to fit a modern battery case and for others buying the same battery, we have found it is about 3-5mm too narrow.

Talking about gravity: Gravity does not care for you trusting or not ...

For gravitational reasons I was forced to stay out of my barn rather longer then I ever imagined. Sob. Meanwhile everything is in place and healthy again and almost 100% functional


While working on the trunk floor I took out the splash panel which had some minor holes and was not looking to bad under its dirt encrusted surface ...

Some cleaning revealed many holes and some dents. Maybe the panel got struck by a blown tire or road debris.

Since the panel was rather thin in many places and the support strut was rather weak too, I decided to replace the panel and parts of the strut.

The splash panel worked out nicely too, just the beading is missing still, but I have to get a wider beading die first.
Alternatively I could work it out with a hammer, but this always looks a little to rough.
