Finished up the toe board. Sandblasted the original part, then washed the whole piece after welding/grinding with PPG DX579 Metal Cleaner and DX520 Metal Conditioner. I used PPG DP74LF red oxide epoxy to prime it.

Nice work, and the owner should be congratulated for bringing back this car.
Can't tell by the pictures, but was this car white or cream originally? I was looking at the picture of the top of the cowl.

I've been working on it for about 5-6 weeks now, not full time as we have other projects in the shop that I also spend time on. As far as cost, we go by the hour and are currently at $60/hour but may have to go up after this job to cover overhead better. The patterns were paper and aren't very durable, I was only planning on saving them to use on the passenger side. I would need to finish this project before taking in more work, probably 18+ months before I'd be able to start anybody else project. We try to keep it to only two projects at a time so we don't get backed up too far. Quote:

It was a tan/sand color. The owner is planning on painting it a dark burgundy/purple metalic. The color is Dark Rosewood Pearl from a mid 90's Jeep/Chrysler.

advise the owner that the modern pearl (mica likely) will decrease the value as obviously non-authentic

We did mention that the original color was the sand color on the firewall/cowl area. He seems pretty set on the Jeep color, he said he found Packard paint chips from 1940 and picked the color from that, and the Jeep color was the closest modern code that matched. It'll be a long time before the paint guns come out, we'll mention the paint color again to see if the original sand color is an option, or atleast another period correct color. I don't believe that metalic paint was available in '40.
