We've heard the usual A-B-C type extinguisher leaves residue that can damage what isn't burnt. Perhaps this is overstated and a non sequitur, given that the few vintage car owners i know who bother carrying any extinguisher, have the A-B-C type, figuring a new wiring harness protects them from fate.

We heard halon leaves no damaging mess, but is no longer available, or not here in California. Halotron is, but expensive and recharging stations limited.

Hesitate to post this query dreading responses from dullards who think boasting how much money they spend on ancillary items elevates their unremarkable car, or return witticisms like "What's yer car worth?"

I found Summit Racing the hands down lowest price in the nation for Optima batteries, but their fire extinguisher prices would choke a fire horse. Any here gathered active/retired firemen, know a reasonable source for a small extinguisher we can mount under the dash?

Or should we forget this "fire alarm," stick with our A-B-C extinguishers, just making sure the needle's still in the charged zone?

I am a believer in having a fire extinguisher in an antique car.

The ABC dry chemical extinguishers make such a total mess you may as well burn the car.

I have Halon extinguishers in my cars from back when you could still buy that.

The new gas is called Halotron and not cheap.

At my company we are not allowed ABC extinguishers in technical areas by our insurance.
