Ah ,yes. My experience also. The P C is supposed to be more durable and perhaps on the road it was poss less apt to incur road damage and rock chips but due to its thickness I incurred problems. It was the first and last dealing with powder. Those may know to chase threaded holes and I did on the only one at the brake tee/vent. I also took a roll cartridge roll and opened up the 4 link hole id s so the grade 8 fine passed thru them but upon final install of course just a light tap to install these and the coating chipped around the holes. Not so bad if covered by washers but mine was a fully adjt set up for street strip. Upon a few test and tune different holes on the 4 link brackets were needed for best et. Then there is no way to "touch up" or spot repair in the car as with paint. Was wondering if the powder was too thick or everyone has the same. Also the build up on the ham mounting flange and a gaskets and very short axles caused a fitment problem. Best result was to eliminate the gasket on the housing and run a bead of ultra gray.

It sounds like the p/c had way to much build up. Also to in our case I think a lot depends on the prep ( cleanliness) prior to p/c. I just don't think they prep the exhaust properly because the film thickness is minimal. I don't know the exact procedure in p/c whether the metal has to etched like for paint or not. Can anybody way in on this.

Well I dont think prep was an issue in my case. The well known facility that fabricated the housing for my Willys coupe certainly has the equipment to sand blast ,
,clean and prep. Then they sent the bare housing off site for powder. How thick is the finished coating supposed to be at a max?

I don't know the correct thickness but I called another powder coating guy he said if to thick you will have problems with peeling and chipping. In our case I think it's prep. We are going to take the exhaust over to him and see what the cost to have pipes redone. I'll fine out how many mils. And the exact procedure.

OK. Thanks. Hmmm- If its too thick it chips n peels, If its thin and it chips its prep. I have seen this merry go round before. I will ask the question in another way.
Anyone ever have no issues with powdercoating chipping on automotive parts? I am talking cars that are driven-not trailer queens.
