That's the device. I wasn't aware that it was still in use as late as 1989/90 any where. Evidently, the Eastern Block countries found it efficient/useful in spite of the availability of other technology. Of course, "other technology" may not have been available in in the Eastern Block at that time.

Whenever I let a young person, or someone used to only "modern" cars drive one of the Packards or Studes they are always enthusiastic about the floor dimmer switch. I think they were dropped due to irregularly shaped floor pans and the extra expense of a separate switch.
