I don't have the corresponding illustrations for the 740/745 but I do have for the 733 and the difference in body space between the phaeton and touring is quite apparent. I could scan and post if you think that would be helpful to you.

Yes, please do. I think it would help visually calibrate me.

Hi
These are details cropped from the 1930 factory photos, hopefully they will help to visually identify the car. Steve Attach file: (21.53 KB) (16.01 KB) (12.29 KB) (12.93 KB)

Steve,
Thanks so much, the photos are great. There is a big difference, bigger than I thought it would be. Jack

Jack, as requested here are the interior views of the 733 Phaeton, Sport Phaeton, and Touring from the 726/733 brochure. Again, for the Touring note that they clearly show how the rear of the body is extended and the seating position is moved back just behind the centerline of the rear axle, as compared to either of the phaeton styles. The same applies to the 740/745.

West, thanks for uploading these files. The car is definitely a 740 Touring. It will be interesting to see what he really wants for it...I wonder if he knows it's not a Phaeton and understands the value difference.

Here's a case in point where someone is not only calling their touring a phaeton, but a dual cowl phaeton.
