Hi,
anyone done a swap for a 700R4 gearbox and have some pics of how you have done the linkage for the gearshift? All my stuff has arrived and I'm ready to start the work.

There are some photos of Scott's (poster "smith") Bendtsen installation. A couple show portions of the linkage so perhaps you can see enough to get some ideas.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... ic.php?post_id=95724#forumpost95724 From what I can see they welded a bracket to the frame for one side support and made a bellcrank like link out of round rod and flat steel to adapt the GM trans connection to a lever attached to a modified or maybe shortened Packard side rod.

Not sure how similar the 4L60E transmission might be but IIRC, on KevinAZ's conversion there was also a photo showing a bit of linkage.

Just FYI
Bendtsen no longer sells the linkage. We will both need to fabricate it ourselves. Those pictures were a benefit to me as well.

Yes Stewart. They told me. Here are a couple of pics I got from Bentsen how the TV-cable connects to the carburettor.

Bendtsen sent me those same pics. I even have one of the plates to go between the carb and the intake (to weld the TV cable connector to).

My concern is the small connection part (shown in the image) that needs to be welded to the carb itself. Bob Bendsten warned me to be very careful with that weld due to its location.

For that reason I am considering going with an Edlebrock 1403 carburetor. With that 1403 all the TV cable connections can be easily purchased and attached without any welding at all. They just bolt right on.

This would allow me to save my original carb to use in the future if I want and give me a few modern convinces with the 1403 like an electric chock and easy adjustments.

However, I am still just toying with the idea.

Can't see in the photo well enough to know exactly how it attaches but any chance the linkage mods could be made separately on something that takes the form of a shaped L bracket or a separate plate? Arrange the needed parts on that piece and then screw to the carb rather than weld.

Without looking at an actual carb but only going on photos, it looks like there would be room for a couple of small screws on what I think is the same piece. The screws would be located inward from where it appears it was welded. Unless welding was done by a pro with experience on small thin pieces, think I would try something like that first.

If it doesn't attach where I think but rather on the fast idle screw support then make a piece out of larger solid stock that would fit snugly over or in that assy and use the fast idle screw thru the block to hold it in position.

Hi,
I got the plate to put under the carb from Bendtsen and the TV cable fixing in the kit with the gearbox from Transmission Depot. I guess I can just put a piece going out in an angle from the plate and drill some holes to put the fixing. Not a big issue.
Just waiting for a gearbox jack (was supposed to be delivered last Friday) and then I will start the job.
