The "nesting box" on the right hand windshield pillar (where a spot lite is usualy mounted) appears to be a gun barrel with a rectangular lite mounted on the barell. Kind of odd. But i guess it might be needed for long trips thru the dessert to shoot at aggressive wildlife.

Altho i don't think there were any rectangular lens lites of any type prior to the mid 1960's.

Keith, my suggestions can't outglitter the originality of your idea. Here are my lame solution approaches:

a)
b) welding helmet
c) a kind of foldable textile bucket upside down over the mirror
d) battered taxi sign

Looking at the special kind of fur caps makes me think of a Packard that got lost in Caucasian tribal territories in CCCP.

Found these 2 packard pictures.
The 35 looks like a Graber to me. The 34 (took 1st price in a 1935 coach build exhibition according to the text on it) was a coach built by Schutter & Van Bakel in Amsterdam.

The '35 is by Karosseri AB Norrmalm of Sweden. Jan Str?man's excellent book on the Swedish coachbuilders is still in print and a very worthwhile read for those interested in foreign coachbuilders.

BDC, as far as I see you have been the first to mention Schutter & Van Bakel at PackardInfo.com. Thanks for that, an interesting read.

As a sidenote
With the sureness of a sleepwalker I could identify "European Packards" within thousands of Detroit Packards. GM, Ford and company would be well advised to employ an European designer of average ability for the European market.
All of you know that people from India love curry and there is nothing to understand about. It is just the way it is. But when it comes to "European looking cars" then you always trust expensive ... (experts) in trendy cashmere sweaters in the final analysis.
