Hi Guscha

I agree, all American companies would have done well to pay much more attention to the design trends being demonstrated by European coachbuilders. Many display a verve sadly lacking in the production offerings here.

Steve, thanks. One of my words was a little strong. I took the edge off.
BDC, would love to see it in color.

The caption reads 黄浦江上的车客渡轮. For those of you, whose Chinese is a little rusty, it translates as Huangpu River. The picture was taken in 1949.

That is a US flagged ship those automobiles are on. Were they being shipped out of China because of Mao's success in the revolution?

John (JW), that's entirely possible, especially with view to the date (1949).
The picture below was taken in pre-war years in Germany and shows officials and visitors in chauffeur-driven embassy vehicles.

About the picture in post #38:

The car in the back is a 1936, but the car in the front is harder to identify. Is it mayby a custom body by Graber? It looks like a junior car with the hood trim you'd think 1938 but the front fender doesn't look like a Packard at all. The sloping beltline in the back makes me think it might be a Graber bodied car.
