I found a Paper tag behind the serial number plate on a 1929 626 . The car was parked in 1955.I dont think the serial number plate was ever removed till today. I was wondering if the tag means anything or somehow got in there over the years. It says AP 592

Some have mentioned Packard sometimes wrote the key numbers on the back of the patent plate. I don't know if they had dual keys then but if not, wonder if that could be the original key number.

Almost with absolute certainty the tag gives the ignition key number. Beginning a year or two later the number was just stamped in ink on the reverse side of the patent plate, replacing the use of the little paper tag.

Packard used Briggs & Stratton locks and keys from 1931 or 1932 thru 1956; these keys began with the prefix "P". Various series were used, P-601 thru P700 in 1932-1934, and P1251 thru P1500 from 1935 thru 1956. I'm not sure who supplied Packard with locks and keys before 1931, perhaps B&S, perhaps not. My suggestion is to go to the source for info on vintage car locks and keys and inquire of them. They probably can cut the key for you from the number.
