Now, that's one fine looking Mexican taxi.

Yeah, was that factory two-toning? As soon as I read the part about the Mexican Taxi I got the Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass song "Mexican Taxi" stuck in my head.
It was a great article. Interesting history being that it was bought new by the Phillips family (Of phillips 66). I wish I had more history on my car. I'm sure it wouldn't have been as interesting though.

I'm so glad you brought that article to our attention, I've read and reread it a few times, and it's a very fine article. Tough enough to restore a limited production car, the work to research and do that car boggles the mind. Those who have an interest in that era and aren't subscribers should try to get a copy on the newstand.
Enclosing a picture of a 40 and a 41 Darrin sedan taken by myself at Warren. These of course are the production versions and differ significantly. Note the running boards.

"Production" ??? They're both one-offs.
I haven't seen the article, yet. What year is it?

Yeah, of course you're right, just my lousy word choice. I was trying to convey that they both differed from the prototype. The article is in the current issue of Hemmings Classic Car, volume 5, issue 5, marked #53 on cover with a Nash Metropolitan pictured.

I was just giving you some grief. I was wondering what year the prototype was? Is it a recent find?

A car offering an interesting visual comparison to the 1940/41 Darrin sedans pictured above is this 1940 Rollson sedan. Photo appeared many decades ago in an interview of Rudy Creteur (Rollson) by Henry Austin Clark Jr. The interview was published in Cars and Parts about 1977. Photo most likely from Rollson files but could have also been by Austy Clark. Take a gander at the size of those door hinges!

They were split hinges weren't they? Half for the front doors and the other half for the rear?
