The riser goes on the drivers side. It between the manifold and the first pipe.

I will need to double check the size of the pipe this weekend before I try it though.

The square flange is approx 3/16 deep IIRC and should fit either inside the exhaust pipe or the manifold opening to keep the valve assy centered. That and the exhaust pipe size is the part I can't remember. I believe the other side of the riser is smooth and just has a gasket. The modern item has a tapered flange so that may be a non starter if it makes the assy have the counterweight on the wrong side but for the price maybe something that could be adapted -- if the bolt spacing will work.

Here is a photo of the exhaust pipe. The exhaust tubing outside diameter is 2 inches and it extends about 1/4 inch into the heat valve.
The gasket 5.09083 is a flat ring about 1/16 inch thick.
Flange gasket 6.108 is a hollow metal ring filled with an insulating material, used on both sides.

On mine I rebuild the valve. I removed the flapper and the rod and re bushed the flange. I only did this as the holes for where the rod when through the flange had ob-longed. I too had the same issue with the small rod that held the spring. I ended up grinding it flush. drilling a new hole and pressing in a new pin.

The flanged end goes into the manifold with the flat gasket 440575. The flange gasket440866 goes on the exhaust pipe side so the flapper clears the edge of the exhaust pipe and the exhaust gas opens the valve

I am going to try what Fred suggested on the riser. Grind off the pin and drill for a new one. I have nothing to lose with this part.

Went through the gasket set this weekend. I think I found the gaskets for the exhaust (Image 1 & 2). I found 3 identical gaskets that are a perfect fit as seen below although the "Parts and Accessories" book says there is only 1 on the vehicle. I would have thought there would be 3 (1 on the right and 2 on the left).

Also found 2 thicker gaskets (image 3) with the same inside diameter as the above. Could those be a version of the flange we were discussing before or are they for something entirely different? The book shows 2 are needed. The image that 56executive posted in #496 shows a metal flange.

On Christmas day I won an eBay auction for a chrome trunk handle, center medallion and lock & key. There were a couple bids already but the auction was set to close on Christmas day so I figured few people would be watching it. I won the items below for $255. I figure it would have cost me a lot more then that to have mine re-chromed.

The chrome has a couple little dimples in it but its much better then the one I already have. The center medallion looks really nearly new and the lock and key match each other.

I bought a another center medallion last winter but its not in as good a shape as this new one. I got great deal on that one also, I have no idea what they are worth. Packard Southwest recently posted a pair of them on their Facebook page but they refused to sale them. I have seen very few in good shape for sale anywhere.

I'd say you made an excellent deal. For what it's worth, Emblemagic is currently asking $225 for their repro 54-55 trunk emblem with none in stock. Believe their process on not in stock items is order so you get your name on the list and when there are enough orders or the emblem cycle time comes around they make a batch. Wait can be a few months to a year or more.
