What pressure should it take to operate the fuel pump arm ?
Pump is not functioning on the car . It probably takes at least 50 #s of force (off the car ) to get it to pump (which it does) .

pumping it by hand and pumping actual gas are two different things.

regardless...the arm is pushed up and down by a lobe on the cam and there is no way around that if you mounted it correctly on the car. so I'd say if you get no gas on the car....its time for a rebuild as the diaphragm is probably ripped.

its spring loaded so pumping it by hand wont really tell you if you have a small rip in the diaphragm.

mine had a small tear and I could only tell because the car would not accelerate past a certain mph. couldn't keep up with the carb. took it apart and it had a small tear in it.

Check that the arm of the pump is not under the cam. Very easy to do.

Two other possible checks that I have had to contend with in Miss Prudence. Check your fuel line to make sure it is not clogged. Check your distributor to see that it is advancing properly as you increase speed. Good Luck. Ernie

The arm SHOULD be under the cam despite what others say.we've received 1000's of cores back and they all have the wear mark
on the top.

To test the pump put the arm in a vise and push the pump so that the arm is effectively going down, it takes a lot of force. Keep one finger over the inlet and after 10 seconds it should still hold vacuum. Finger over the outlet should still hold pressure or you could use a pressure/vacuum gauge.

Beware of those who have no clue of what they are talking about
