Riki will have to confirm, but the Olds and Packard pumps don't line up, even if the Olds pump base is machined square. I take it he is removing the 5-degree angle from both pieces.

Hi Jack.

Yes..

Here is pic of pumps..I thought melling was alot shorter..

But ..melling is about 32nd inch..shorter.

I still need to see how the melling filter sits. Compared to pack.

That is the block that may use. Depending where the filter fits may have. Thinner..

It's at 7/8 thick now.. And the lenght needs to be cut down.

And the melling pump will need to be milled back a bit to move bolt hole. Then machine off end of pump. 1/4 inch or so..

Edit.. Looked at filter..it has I would say 3/4 inch Or so drop..so .going to make adapter plate thin as possible..3/4 inch ?..

Anyway..my lifter problem is the pump..have 8 qts in and no lifter problems..but I won't change out pump till I pull the trans....damn that works good..just little flare sometimes..if I get on it.

Looking at it..I think 1/4.5/16s Or 3/8s. Flat stock will work. With flat head cap screws

Also. Milling off corner of pump where main bolt is. Plate would go around it to.

3/8s will give more thread torque.

Here is where I am at

Had to make jig to center shaft.

3/8s flat. Once I drill holes in plate i will be able to see I can keep flat head screws within pump..maybe turn head down.

Edit..going to grind off that thin part of pump body. Over head bolt..grind it back to that yellow mark

Edit again..

Pump bolt will be moved in about where that yellow mark is.

That end hole will be ground..or milled back or removed.. Plenty of room to drill another hole..

Edit..the part over bolt..could be milled up to clear bolt..to keep pump integerty..

Edit. Update..no need to remove corner of pump over bolt..clears the top of bolt..as it sits now..only going to have plate polished..flat..

Nice work. Maybe, a quick rundown of the advantages expected to be realized with this engineering and fabrication?

Hi..Jack.

Just 2.

1..to move bolt in so block does not need to be ground.

2. Get get filter up more from bottom of pan.

Packards sits on bottom. So to speak.

I will send you a plate if you want and have it cnc...another option. For pack owners..

I screwed up..I counter sunk the wrong side. On my sample..

Hi, Riki,

Good ideas all, so great minds think alike. FWIW, as I mentioned earlier, the third generation adapter plate is thinner, doesn't need to be ground and I'm using a different pickup on the standard Olds pump.
