Belated birthday greetings to your father, Robin! (I'm a certified April Fool - my BD is on 1 April).
Thank you VERY MUCH for posting these videos! Being both a Packard nut and a WWII history buff, I very much appreciate seeing these. It's great to hear from the people who were actually there. You might like my post yesterday about the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo: 56packardman.com/2017/04/18/remember-the-doolittle-raid-on-tokyo/

JW, you bring back memories, when you said USS Hornet. My father was on the USS Wasp that was sunk, only because it was so heavily damaged.

My late father was England and was in the RAF during WW II. He flew on an Avro Lancaster which used that Packard engine.

Thank you for adding that seldom-remembered fact about Adm. Mitscher! 56packardman.com/2017/04/18/remember-the-doolittle-raid-on-tokyo/ On a separate topic - not about Packards - a then well-known American race car driver went down with Titanic: 56packardman.com/2017/04/18/gear-head-tu ... -car-driver-goes-down-with-titanic/

It's good to see you here! Thanks for adding your comment about your father and the Packard-powered Lancaster!

Just to close the circle, the Atlantic crossing NCs (Navy Curtiss) were powered by Packard designed Liberty engines. The engineering officer on the NC-4, James Breese, was a customer of my father in the 1950s. He did not have a Packard, but wanted his Nash Ramblers and other vehicles serviced by an authorized Packard dealer. I recently connected with his grandson, and had delightful visit with him sharing a trove of information about his grandfather. The NC-4 is on display at the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Florida.
