I'm guessing with the Flexi Joint, you won't be able to do the old check of the exhaust system being center by pulling a few plugs loose and having the engine shaking to see if anything touches.
Just a thought.

Wesley, there should be little or no need for that test with a flex link installed in that location.

Owen, I was just wondering since Packard does list a setup for replacing exhaust components.

Wow thats interesting, I now have the front frame and radiator fitted, I will try and get it run up before the body goes back on. Does any body know if the fuel pump had a heat shield, I cant remember seeing one for the car.I Also still have an issue for the clutch return spring. Was the return spring in the same place for all 42 clippers. Here is a pic of the radiator fitted, the radiator was recored.

The same clutch springs were used thru 50 on most models and was positioned about the same on all. There are two springs listed --one for and one without Electromatic clutch. Don't know which is the weaker but suspect it is the one for use with Electromatic. Kanter may have one.

Not surprising your fuel pump shield is missing as it is one of those things that get in the way, are removed and conveniently forgotten to be reinstalled. John Ulrich repros the heat shields but they have different shapes and mouting depending on engine.julrichpackard.com/fuel_radiator_gas_caps.htm

Yes mine is the non electric, looks like i will have to make a bracket to mount to the side of the steering box for the spring to fix to ond onto the clutch arm. I also have another question, is there any info anywhere about the shims or spacers between body and chassis. ure they vary in thickness. Mine were pretty rotten I was going to use canvasrubber. Thanks for your help. Howard

Check out the 41-47 Clipper parts book in the Body I section which covers Group 30 parts. If you don't have a printed manual you can download that section

Starting at Gr 30.1004 Cushion, body to frame bolt rubber, each cushion size and thickness is described starting with the first location which is at the cowl. The thickness of each cushion is a start but in combination were also various thickness steel shims which were used as needed. Those start at 30.1015.

As far as I know, the cushions are not reproduced for any models before 51 but if you can't find a suitable thickness rubber and fabric material over there, Kanter offers a 2 foot long strip of material which you will have to cut into pieces and drill the holes for the individual cushions. No mention on the thickness of his product.

Thanks for that. I managed to go through some pics, I kept all the original rubbers and shims and have used them they all seemed in quite good order. The body went back on without a hitch.

Going to look good. Are you going to redo the woodgrain on the dash and window moldings or just paint them.
