the one on the steering linkage? is there any way to test that.

I had no problems untill the original pump blew.

Agreed, and IIRC you had some difficulty with the new hoses. Any chance one of them is kinked, blocked or even hooked up incorrectly. Don't recall any serious issues with the pumps unless run dry as happened when your hose broke so seems kinda odd 2 would be bad.

As to test, only thing in manual is pressure test out of pump. There are a few references to stuck flow or relief valve so that is a possibility if the pumps sitting a long time. The control valve is the one with all 4 hoses connecting.

im kind of unsure myself. i found it strange that all the pumps would go like that.

A timeline here: old hoses broke while working under the car. i disconnected the belt so the pump would not rundry.

finally got new hoses

1st pump blew a few drives later.

The old pump had an intermittant squeak that would come and go. sometimes i wouldnt hear it for days. the day it blew, it seemed to stop pumping about a mile before it siezed. I was on a busy highway, and i was only about a mile and a half away from my destination.

i just had a thought. to make the connection at the controll valve, we had to use a flexible brake hose. im wondering if there is too much flow restriction in that small hose.

the better 55 has good hoses, so im going to swap them out later today.

That sounds like a good place to start and also, if the old pump happened to throw any of the metal that apparently melted into the flow, the clearances in the control valve are so tight something like a fleck could really mess things up. You might also think of swapping that as well should the hoses not help.

good thought!

i noticed, while i was working, that the better 55 has monroe steering, not bendix. the parts car is bendix though, so im using the pressure hose from that but i dont have any working pumps now, so im going to order a rebuild kit from kanter tomorow.

I'd HIGHLY recommend using the Monroe setup, two hoses instead of the four hose setup of the Bendix. I personally think the Monroe steering is the better deal, mainly because it's simpler. Both of the '56 Patricians that I had were Monroe, and I think they went to that in the end, either they decided it was better, or that's what was left over.

so i was thinking that after i strip the useable parts off my 55 parts car..

use the original 352, hooked to a torqueflite 727 my friend has to make the stripped down car a mean drag car.

then my friend and I were talking, and he said i should do the same mechanical setup, but add frame stiffeners and a hitch, then pull it in the 2wd class at the truck pulls.

i think the T/l system would be awsome for both!

hmmmmmmmmmm
i have lots of ideas....
