Wow, the maroon/tan and black '53 Clippers are steal for that money! Especially the maroon/tan. These both look like you could jump in them, turn the key and drive down the road. Both of those would be great starter Packards for someone interested in collecting.

I like the Sportster 2 door. Can anyone tell me how a Sportster differs from any club coupe?

Trim is the difference. The car was intended to kind of fill a need for a lower priced Clipper 2 door hardtop. Since the only hardtop was the more upscale Packard Mayfair model, to get something quickly at a lower cost they chose the club sedan and decked it out with many of the Mayfair interior styling and chrome treatments to make believe it was a real hardtop. Doubt if the vertical post in the middle fooled anyone but according to Bob Neal's book it was well received by the dealers.

Hi
For $261 dollars over a Clipper Special club sedan, the buyer got a two-tone paint scheme, Mayfair hardtop-style interior including chrome bows and exterior B-pillar trims. A little more exterior trim to visually differentiate the Sportster wouldn't have gone amiss. Given the positive response, wonder why they didn't add a four door version for 1954? Three '39 Super 8 touring sedans, two with side-mounts, all ready to proudly enjoy: Dark Gray: chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/6178274185.html Tan: chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/6181314260.html Black: chicago.craigslist.org/nch/cto/6129431761.html Steve Added 7-8-2017: This '53 Sportster, Ultramatic, has been for sale for a while, looks to be a bargain for how nicely restored it is: cnj.craigslist.org/cto/6168928263.html

I like the grille on the dark gray Super 8. I think it is more attractive than the painted original version. Plus, it does not have sidemounts, another feature I prefer. To each his own... JWL

This isn't exactly "Various CL Pickings" but...I was in a local junkyard looking for some parts for another car (non Packard) of ours. With a yard worker we were scouring a remote yard. Of course I didn't have my phone with me!
Anyway, there was a 51 or ? 2 door hardtop way over against the wall. It was difficult to get back there. The car has rust of course and the floor is rusted through in places. The dashboard is missing as is the steering column. Door and interior panels missing. seat frame(s), with out cloth, are there. The exterior body appears in good shape, the grill, bumpers look good. The right rear taillight lens is broken. The headlight buckets are missing. I couldn't get the hood or trunk open. It does have an engine but not sure about a trans. and I don't recall if the pedals were there. Someone looking for a nice project? I hate to see Packards, especially this one, just rusting away. My Wife says "No more cars!". So anyone interested? PM me. We might have to twist the yard owners arm a bit. Great candidate for a frame off restoration. It will take some work getting out of there but I think worth it. Barry
