Hi

Hershey was great! Dave already posted good photos of some of the same cars I found fascinating on #34. Here are a few more Packards from the Car Corral and show. There were two '30 745's, the other I didn't get good photos of was a sport phaeton, a dark car parked in the shade mobbed because it was parked next to the '29 Duesenberg J Derham convertible coupe.

Three 1933 1001's appeared, two in the corral, one in the show. 1941's as well, 120 convertible coupe and station wagon as well as a particularly striking 160 convertible coupe.

Stevens' "Die Valkyrie" is frankly hideous up front, worse in person. Remainder is nothing special, just heavy-handed and uninspired. Brooks Stevens did some fine work for Willys and Studebaker but he should have spent more time at the drawing board on this one and the Gaylord.

Sorry I didn't connect with other Forum participants, came by the site a number of times but everyone was off playing, but then again, so was I!

The orange and green 745 touring brings up a question: When did Packard first offer a metal trunk? The 1930 accessory catalog does not show it, nor does the 1932. It appears that the metal trunk was available by 1936, but I don't know when in between it was first offered. Anyone have an accessory catalog for 1933-35?

West, I'm pretty sure we've been through this before, you might try a search for an old thread. I do have a 1934 Accessory catalog and all of the trunks that are illustrated have fabric covering, a material called Fabrikoid was the most commonly used though there were others. That said, I'm pretty sure (seen more than once on '33s) there was a metal covered trunk painted in body color available for mounting over the gas tank cover and snug against the rear of the body on club sedans, ahead of where the trunk rack would be.

Yes. I thought we had, but I guess I'm not creative enough to find it using the "Search".
